Personality

Takumi shows up quite early in the series and evidently, he is one of the two main characters of the plot. However, not much is known about the boy other than through his actions that revolve around Ayuzawa Misaki.

First Impressions

Takumi's first appearance is in the school hallways after he has rejected another girl's confession. Once again, after seeing a girl suddenly cry, Misaki tells Takumi that he should watch what he says and to not make girl cry again. Unlike many of the other male students that we've been introduced since the beginning of the volume, Takumi has a rather apathetic attitude towards the president. Shortly afterwards, a male student comments that they should "beat the president up". We see some more of Takumi's laid-back nature while the student comments that he's the strongest.

It's rather obvious from his first appearance that Takumi is a popular guy. His nonchalant behaviour may be irritating (especially for Misaki), but he is the target of many confessions and the subject of admiration for many of the boys. For the most part, Takumi seems rather bored and uninterested in everything.

In-Depth

As the plot progresses, several other qualities of Takumi become evident to the reader. He continues to be nonchalant in most aspects, but after discovering Misaki's secret and finding out about her troubled life, Takumi takes an interest in the president. A more detailed portrayal of his character surfaces with his love for Misaki.

Takumi is very caring towards Misaki. Before his interest in the student council president blooms, Takumi keeps Misaki's job a secret from the school. After seeing her take on a heavy burden of work onto her own shoulders, he starts to look after her and comments on her overworking nature. Throughout the rest of Volume 1, Takumi remains a protector of Misaki, despite her clear irritation towards his constant prescence at school and work. Although Takumi tends to tease Misaki and often drives her over her limit with his laid-back attitude, he keeps her interests to heart. This is evident when Misaki becomes extremely troubled with facing Takumi after he announces his love for her and kiss her. Later on, after seeing her troubled expression, in order to ease her worries, he immediately kisses the male vice president (as an award for the vice president's hard work) in front of Misaki, leaving her to dismiss him as a perverted boy who likes to sexually harass (all) people.

Although Takumi is generally very composed and a keen observer of his surroundings, he becomes hot-headed when Misaki is in danger. Takumi seems like the perfect saviour in the two chapters (especially after snatching Misaki from the three delinquets' - from Seika High School - hands), but Takumi loses this composed front when Misaki is in danger of being attacked by one of her customers. Specializing in aikido, she dismisses the need for self-protection tools and tells her employer to distribute them to the other girls instead. As a type of warning (a very odd type of warning), Takumi simulates a scenario where he pretends to attack Misaki after all the other employees have left. When the actual scenario occurs, Takumi becomes extremely protective and angered, and shatters a glass window with his kick in order to get to where Misaki is held captive.

Takumi is amazing in the fact that he is nearly perfect. He has an infinite amount of time to spend around Misaki, receives high grades without hitting the books like the student council president, is extremely strong and he's well-liked by males and females inside and outside of Seika High School. The boy has professional cooking skills, has impeccable timing when saving Misaki, can play chess and nothing major happens to him when he jumps off the roof to retrieve a photo of Misaki and him.

Not much is known about Takumi outside of what he does around Misaki. There are some hints that he comes from a wealthy family (which would also explain his many skills), but as of far, his life and history remains a mystery.
